A piece of swedish snus history
Also knows as Ljunglöfs Ettan snus, a snus brand introduced as early as 1822 in Sweden by Jacob Fredrik Ljunglöf. He was the first to incoroprate a modern day view on large scale business into a time where snus producers were small, local companies. It was an emering market which Ljunglöf took advantage of stream lining production and shipping. Not only that, but he also introduced high quality standards which live on to this very day. Originally there were also Ljunglöfs no2 and no3, which were grades of quality (lower) and in the end, he only kept Ettan (no 1 in swedish) in production.
After having been bought by the swedish government in 1915 the new management were confused as to why there was so much prime quality Virginia tobacco in stock. The reply they got was ”We can't make Ettan without it!”. After quitting the snus business, the Ljunglöf family ventured into the insurance business, starting what would later become Skandia, one of the largest insurance companies in Europe. But that's a whole different story.
The new owners renamed Ettan to 901, but after a significant drop in sales they quickly changed the name back again.
